SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- The first two days of the 2017 Summit League Basketball Championships featured an additional attraction with an inaugural Fan Fest.
At this year's Basketball Tournament, the league established a Fan Fest to bring yet another element to an already widely-successful Summit League Basketball Championships experience. Thousands attended the inaugural event, located in Sioux Falls Arena, down the hallway from the Denny Sanford PREIMER Center. The total crowd was estimated at nearly 4,000 over the two-day event.
"The Fan Fest was a huge success", said Summit League Commissioner Tom Douple. "Watching the families enjoy all the activities was very rewarding. It is a great addition to our tournament and well supported by our sponsors, community and fans."
Sharp Shooter, Pop-A-Shot, Around The Summit, Clutch Shooter, Light 'Em Up, Show Your Team Pride and A New Perspective were some of the activities that we had for all ages to test their skills. Several photo opportunities were available at event that gave fans an up-close look at the true championship experience. Photos with the official Summit League Championship trophy and replicating celebratory net cutting are part of the ways to look like a champion. Fans may also take their photos with their favorite team's jersey and mascot.
Each team had pep rallies featuring bands, cheer and dance squads, scheduled throughout Fan Fest. Each competing team had its band, cheer and dance teams, and mascot make an appearance prior to their game.
The Summit League had several student volunteers who are studying sport management at local colleges and universities work the event.
"We have already sold over 3,000 all-session tickets to the future 2018 and 2019 tournament, so the Fan Fest will continue to grow and improve to provide our fans with the ultimate basketball experience," added Douple.
