ELMHURST, Ill. - The Summit League has selected South Dakota men's track & field athlete Chris Nilsen (Kansas City, Mo.) as the Male Athlete of the Month and North Dakota State women's track & field athlete Alyssa Olin (Mott, N.D.) as the Female Athlete of the Month for March.
 
Nilsen extends his league record to seven career Athlete of the Month awards after jumping a personal best 19' 0.25" (5.80m) to win the pole vault title at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays. That mark sits atop the NCAA leaderboard and was the seventh-best height in NCAA outdoor history. It is also currently tied for the top American height and tied for the fourth-highest vault in the world. The sophomore also captured the pole vault title at Arizona State's Baldy Castillo Invitational with a height of 18' 0.50" (5.50m). Earlier the month, Nilsen placed second at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships with a vault of 18' 4.50" (5.60m).
 
Olin earns her first career Athlete of the Month honor after capturing the javelin throw title at Arizona State's Baldy Castillo Invitational. Her throw of 191' 6" (58.36m) set a new personal best, ranks No. 1 in the nation and is over seven feet better than her nearest competitor. The senior's throw ended the month of March ranked No. 10 in the world and the top mark by an American. The March 20 Athlete of the Week, Olin also took second place at the Stanford Invitational with a toss of 176' 11" (53.92m) in the javelin.
