SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -
South Dakota racked up 26 points between its men's and women's programs to lead the way in The Summit League Commissioner's Cup standings following the fall season of the 2018-19 academic year. The Coyotes are also first in the Dr. Helen Smiley Women's All-Sports Award Standings with 21 points, while South Dakota State and Purdue Fort Wayne are tied atop the Dr. William Steinbrecher Men's All-Sports Award Standings.

North Dakota State (24.0) holds a slim half-point lead on South Dakota State (23.5) in the Commissioner's Cup standings and the top four spots are only separated by 3.5 points. Denver is fourth with 22.5 points,  Omaha is fifth with 20 while Purdue Fort Wayne is sixth with 19 points. League newcomer North Dakota is currently seventh with 15.5 points and Oral Roberts (10 points) and Western Illinois (8.5 points) round out the standings in eighth and ninth-place, respectively.

The Coyotes took the lead in the fall with their 26 points thanks to a women's cross country team title (8), a second-place finish in volleyball (8), a third-place finish in men's cross country (5) and a fifth-place finish in women's soccer (5).

South Dakota State's seven points from its team title in men's cross country were enough to share the top spot in the men's standings with Purdue Fort Wayne, who received four points for a fourth-place finish in cross country and three points for a third-place finish in soccer.

The Commissioner's Cup is given annually to the member institution that collects the most combined points in relationship to placement in league-sponsored sports between its men's and women's athletic programs, while the All-Sports Awards are given to the institutions that accumulate the most points in men's sports and women's sports. The men's award is named for former Valparaiso Director of Athletics Dr. William Steinbrecher, who guided the Crusaders from 1979-2004, while the women's award is named for former Western Illinois Director of Athletics Dr. Helen Smiley, who headed WIU's athletic program from 1994-2001.
