SIOUX FALLS, S.D. --
Wednesday's Summit League men's basketball contest between North Dakota State and Omaha is more than just a game. For The Summit League membership and Sanford Health, it is the first in a series of league basketball matchups that will bring awareness to type 1 diabetes.

The #BeatType1 initiative is a collaborative effort between the league's nine member institutions and Sanford Health to bring awareness to a disease that more than 1.25 million Americans are currently battling. Administrators from each institution took a tour of the Sanford Health facilities during a visit to Sioux Falls this past October and recorded public service announcements that will air at each of their respective institutions during these awareness games.

In total, there are 14 dates set aside by league members to bring awareness with Oral Roberts, Western Illinois, Denver and South Dakota State scheduled to do theirs during doubleheaders between the men's and women's programs.
