Otterdahl, Miller secure March Athlete of the Month accolades

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. –North Dakota State and South Dakota State claim March Summit League Athlete of the Month accolades Tuesday, as announced by the League office. North Dakota State's Payton Otterdahl won the award on the men's side for the second time this year, while South Dakota State's Macy Miller claimed the award on the women's side.

Miller was on a mission in the month of March, guiding her team to a Summit League regular season and tournament championship, tournament MVP honors, all-tournament team honors all while guiding her squad to a berth into the NCAA Sweet 16, the first Sweet 16 appearance in Summit League women's basketball history. Miller averaged 22.3 points per game and eight rebounds in March and became the league's all-time leading scorer.

Otterdahl was named The Summit League, regional and national indoor field athlete of the year after claiming the shot put and the weight throw titles at the NCAA Championships in March. He became only the second man in NCAA history to sweep national titles in the indoor events. Because of Otterdahl's performances he now holds the collegiate record in the shot put with a mark of 71-06.75 (21.81m) and ranks fifth in collegiate history in the weight throw at 79-01.25 (24.11m).

  • Ranks 15th in the nation in the hammer throw
  • Ranks fifth in collegiate history in the weight throw with a mark of 79-01.25 (24.11m) at NCAA meet and holds the collegiate record in the indoor shot put
  • Only the second man in NCAA history to sweep national titles in the indoor throwing events
  • Named Summit League Field Athlete of the Year for the indoor season
  • Named Midwest Region Field Athlete of the Year
  • Named USTFCCCA National Field Athlete of the Year

  • Average 22.3 ppg, 8 rpg, 3.4 apg and 1.2 spg. She scored at least 20 points in five of the Jackrabbits seven games in March
  • Recorded a double-double in the Summit League Championship, NCAA First and Second Round games
  • Tied a career-high in rebounds twice while also dishing out five-or-more assists in three games
  • Led SDSU to their ninth all-time win over a ranked opponent with their win over No. 12 Syracuse in the second round of the NCAA Tournament
