November Athletes of the Month Release

ELMHURST, Ill. - The Summit League selected Oakland men’s swimming & diving athlete Anders Jensen (Copenhagen, Denmark) and women’s soccer player Shannon Coley (Auburn Hills, Mich.) as its Male and Female November Athletes of the Month.

Jensen earns his first career Athlete of the Month award after recording a pair of NCAA ‘B’ cut qualifying times and setting numerous records during the month. He earned qualifying times in the 100 and 200 backstroke at the Eastern Michigan Swim and Dive Invitational taking first in both events. His 100 back time of 46.73 is currently sixth in the nation while his time of 1:43.92 in the 200 back is 24th. Those times, along with his 200 individual medley time of 1:49.56, each rank first in The Summit League. He was also part of two first place relays that hold top league times in the 200 medley (1:28.79) and the 400 medley (3:15.44) at the EMU Swim and Dive Invitational, where he set three pool and meet records. Jensen also earned first-place victories in the 100 butterfly (52.42) at Wright State and in the 200 medley relay (1:30.84) in a dual with Eastern Michigan.

Coley collects her first Athlete of the Month honor after leading the Golden Grizzlies to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The senior made three key saves in a shootout to help Oakland advanced past No. 16 Ohio State in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. She also made six stops in the game, which was tied 1-1 following regulation, and two overtime periods. It was just the second NCAA Tournament win in league history (South Dakota State defeated Colorado in 2008). At the league tournament, Coley became the first player in league history to record a pair of shutouts as Oakland defeated Western Illinois (1-0) and Fort Wayne (2-0). The Golden Grizzlies became the first No. 1 seed to capture the league championship since 2004. For the month, Coley recorded a 2-1-1 record with 18 saves and a 0.92 goals against average.
