SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Summit League Commissioner Tom Douple announced Thursday that veteran multi-sport official Mike Conlin will join his staff as the baseball coordinator of officials beginning with the 2019 season. Conlin has put together a distinguished career in collegiate athletics that spans more than four decades of on-field officiating for baseball, basketball and football.
"We are excited to add Mike to our staff. When you look at his resume, you see an extensive background in exactly what we are looking for out of this position," Douple said. "This is a type of role that he is extremely familiar with and our umpires will benefit from his wealth of knowledge and experiences."
Conlin's background on the baseball diamond includes working four NCAA Division I College World Series, 11 NCAA Super Regionals and 17 NCAA Regionals since 2000.He has also umpired at four different conference tournaments, including the Big Ten and Big 12 championship events.
"I am both honored and excited to have this opportunity to work with The Summit League," Conlin said. "The current umpire staff is very good. I am looking forward to working with them and helping them become the best umpires they can be. We owe that to our coaches, our student athletes and the fans of our league."
Conlin has served as a coordinator of basketball officials for four different conferences at the NCAA and NAIA level since 1990 and has also served as the executive director of the the Capital Area Officials Association since 2003, which helps train and teach officials from a wide-number of sports.
In addition to his on-field postseason baseball experience, Conlin has also worked as a football official in four Division I bowl games, the NCAA Division II Playoffs and two Mid-American Championship games. His postseason basketball experience includes several conference tournament games, including the Horizon League and Mid-American Conference.
