WEEKLY NOTEBOOK: VOL. 3 (Feb. 28)

AROUND THE SUMMIT LEAGUE...
• Omaha's Keil Krumwiede has been the league's top hitter through the opening two of the season, posting a .458 battling clip. Krumwiede has hit safely in all seven of the Mavs' games (11-for-24) and went 7-for-15 during a four-game split at SeattleU last weekend.
• Mavs' righthander Payton Kinney was named the league's Pitcher of the Week for the second time during his career. The first came after a no-hitter last season against Ohio (March 4), which would end up being his final appearance of a campaign cut short by an injury. The senior received a medical redshirt and has come back fast with a 2-0 record and a 2.00 ERA through two starts in his return to the mound.
• Western Illinois picked up its first non-conference series win since 2013 after taking two of three at Southeast Missouri State. Newcomer Kevin Raisbeck earned the league's Hitter of the Week accolade after going 4-for-6 with three runs scored and a pair of doubles in the Leathernecks' two victories.
• ORU dropped three games in The Lone Star State last week, but first baseman Spencer Henson is off to a good start in his efforts to repeat as the league's Triple Crown Winner. Henson is batting .316 with two home runs and eight RBI through the opening two weeks. His RBI total is tops among Summit League players.
• Purdue Fort Wayne was swept in a three-game series at Alabama State, but catcher Andrew Lawvere continued to display his power stroke. Three of his four hits this season have cleared the fence as he leads the league with three homers. He connected on the league's first grand slam in the series opener with the Hornets.
• South Dakota State's Braeden Brown hit safely in all four games for the Jacks at the Snowbird Invitational, finishing the tournament 6-for-14 (.429) with a home run and three RBI. His homer came in the eighth inning of their lone win in The Sunshine State -- a 4-3 victory over Florida International.
• NDSU was competitive in a pair of two-game series with UT Rio Grande Valley and Portland, but the Vaqueros (8-3, 6-4) and Pilots (2-1, 8-5) were each able to sweep the Bison. Outfielder Jake Melec went 4-for-12 in those four contests and leads the league with three stolen bases through two weeks.
