WEEKLY NOTEBOOK: Vol. 13 (May 9)

AROUND THE SUMMIT LEAGUE

• Two weeks remain of The Summit League baseball regular season and there will be a lot decided down the stretch as five teams are still alive for a berth into the 2019 Championship slated for May 22-25 in Tulsa. The top four teams qualify for the tournament that will be hosted by ORU for the fourth-straight year.
• Omaha has seen its lead in the standings trimmed down to just two games after dropping back-to-back Summit League series for the first time this season, but the Mavericks still control their own destiny. They could clinch the top overall seed this weekend with at least two wins in their series at Western Illinois coupled with at least a pair of losses by South Dakota State.
• The second-place Jackrabbits (16-8) entertain Oral Roberts in Brookings and those two teams are separated by just two games in the standings. SDSU has won its last four series since being swept by Omaha (April 5-6).
• The Golden Eagles are in third place at 14-10 and have the series against the Jacks this weekend and one to close out the campaign at Omaha the following week. SDSU took two-of-three from the Golden Eagles in Tulsa earlier this season.
• Western Illinois left Tulsa last weekend with two key road wins to even up its league record at 12-12 and stay in a tie for fourth with North Dakota State. The Bison (12-12) got to the .500 mark as well after taking two of three from league-leading Omaha, including a 2-1 victory in the rubber match that went 13 innings.
• The Leathernecks host an Omaha squad that swept them during the first half of the season in Omaha while the Bison travel to Purdue Fort Wayne to take on a Mastodons' squad looking to snap a 19-game skid and pick up an elusive league win.
• Leatherneck shortstop Kevin Raisbeck collected his second Player of the Week accolade of the season after batting .500 and scoring four key runs in WIU's series win over the Golden Eagles. Raisbeck also doubled in both victories over ORU as he increased his batting average to .318 in league play.
• NDSU freshman Max Loven registered his second-straight complete game in a 3-2 win over Omaha in game two of that series to earn his first career weekly accolade. Loven is 3-1 in league play and his 2.99 ERA in those contests is fourth best among league hurlers.
• The Summit League's reigning triple crown winner Spencer Henson of Oral Roberts is back to his old tricks. Henson has surged to the top of those categories with a strong push of late. He has homered in four of his last five games to bring his league-leading total to 14 and has nine RBI during that stretch to push his league-leading figure there to 42. He has also hit safely in seven straight games (12-for-26) to increase his batting average to a league-best .362 clip.
• On the mound, Omaha's Payton Kinney is continuing his strong comeback campaign with league-leading totals in wins (8), league wins (5), ERA (1.55) and league ERA (1.86). Kinney has only given up more than two runs in one of his 12 starts in 2019.
