UMKC Men, NDSU Women Capture Summit League Golf Championship Titles

KELLER, Texas − After leading the golf championships all three days, the Kansas City men and North Dakota State women captured the league golf titles Wednesday, at the Sky Creek Ranch Golf Club in Keller, Texas. The Kangaroos won their second title in three years while the Bison earned their first title in school history.

Kansas City senior Korbin Kuehn captured his second career Championship MVP honor after shooting a 54-hole 216 (69-78-69). Kuehn was the lone player to record two rounds under par in the tournament and last won the award in 2010 with his first-place performance. Newcomer of the Championship freshman Antoine Rozner placed second with a 217 (69-75-73), one shot behind teammate Kuehn. North Dakota State's Bill Carlson (222), Kansas City's Nathan Hughes (220) and Western Illinois' Nate Davis (221) also earned all-tournament team honors. Kansas City's J.W. VanDenBorn won his second Coach of the Year award.

North Dakota State's Amy Anderson won her third consecutive Championship MVP with a three-round 223 (76-73-74) on the women's side. IUPUI's Ana Fernandez de Mesa was named the Newcomer of the Championship after placing fourth with a 238 (77-81-80) while Bison head coach Matt Johnson was named Coach of the Year. In addition to Anderson and Fernandez de Mesa, Kansas City's Emily Isaacson (235), South Dakota State's Morgan Fitts (234) and Western Illinois' Emily Brink (239) were named to the all-tournament team.

The Kangaroos earn The Summit League's automatic bid to the 2013 NCAA Men's Golf Regionals which take place May 16-18, while the Bison will participate in the 2013 NCAA Women's Regionals from May 9-11. Announcement of the NCAA Men's Regional fields and pairings are slated for May 6, at 8 p.m. (CDT), while the NCAA Women's Regional fields and pairings are scheduled for April 29, at 8 p.m. (CDT).
