NORTH DAKOTA STATE 84, SOUTH DAKOTA 79
VERMILLION, S.D. (AP) - Cameron Hunter scored a career-best 35 points to lead North Dakota State in an 84-79 win over South Dakota in Summit League action on Saturday.
Hunter was 9 of 12 from the field, made all five from distance and was 12 of 14 from the line for the Bison (9-7, 1-1) who pick up their first Summit League win. Paul Miller added 24 points with six rebounds and six assists.
The Bison struggled early and were down 28-23 with 5:51 left in the half but a 15-2 run with Hunter, Miller and Chris Quayle combining for five-straight 3-pointers pushed the team into a 38-30 lead with 3:03 to go before the break.
North Dakota State led through most of the second half but fell behind to trail 76-75 with 2:43 left. Miller and Spencer Eliason answered with a pair of layups and Hunter drained five free throws in the stretch to keep the Bison on top.
Matt Mooney scored 23 points -- 5 of 13 from distance -- with four steals to lead the Coyotes (14-5, 2-1).
FORT WAYNE 82, DENVER 63
DENVER (AP) - Bryson Scott and Kason Harrell combined to score 38 points and Fort Wayne beat Denver on the Pioneers' home court for the fourth time in five games Saturday, posting an 82-63 Summit League victory.
The Mastodons now have won six of their last eight.
Scott hit a jumper, Matt Weir converted a layup and Dylan Carl dunked and nailed a 3 in a 9-0 run that started barely two minutes into the game and vaulted Fort Wayne (12-7, 1-1) into a 13-6 lead it never relinquished. By halftime the Mastodons held a 10-point lead and after John Konchar dunked with 6:40 remaining it reached 21 points.
Scott finished with 20 points for his 24th career 20-point game. Harrell hit 4 of 9 from deep to finish with 18 while Carl and Konchar added 12 and 11 points, respectively.
Joe Rosga scored 18 points to lead Denver (6-12, 0-2).
SOUTH DAKOTA STATE 101, OMAHA 88
OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - Mike Daum scored 27 points and grabbed 11 rebounds and South Dakota State rolled to 101-88 win over Omaha on Saturday night.
It was Daum's eighth double-double of the season. David Jenkins Jr. added 22 points and five rebounds, Reed Tellinghuisen had 16 points, Tevin King added 15 and Skyler Flatten chipped in 12.
The Jackrabbits (14-5, 2-0 Summit League) shot 57 percent to 44 percent for Omaha and had a 35-25 rebounding edge.
South Dakota State jumped to a 22-8 start that included a pair of 3-pointers by Jenkins and another by Flatten and built it into a 50-35 advantage at the break.
The Jackrabbits led throughout the second half and were up 91-64 with just under six minutes to play. Omaha cut it to 95-82 with 2:45 left but could not get closer.
Zach Jackson scored 29 points to lead the Mavericks (5-13, 0-2). JT Gibson added 18.
ORAL ROBERTS 81, WESTERN ILLINOIS 66
TULSA, Okla. (AP) - Emmanuel Nzekwesi scored 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds and Oral Roberts won its third straight Summit League contest, turning away Western Illinois 81-66 on Saturday night.
The Golden Eagles, already off to their best start in league play in the last five seasons, knocked off Western Illinois for the ninth time in the last 12 meetings.
Oral Roberts (7-11, 3-0) hit 30 of 66 from the floor (45.5 percent), including 6 of 15 from beyond the arc, and got its cushion by going 15 of 16 from the free-throw line.
Nzekwesi, the Summit League Player of the Week, hit 8 of 18 from the field, including 1 of 3 from distance, and made 4 of 4 free throws. R.J. Fuqua was 6 for 6 from the line and finished with 18 points.
Dalan Ancrum scored 25 points to lead the Leathernecks (8-6, 0-2).
