The Summit League Announces Week Five men’s soccer awards

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Week five is in the books and Summit League action is in full swing. University of Denver senior forward Andre Shinyashiki earned his fourth Summit League Offensive Player of the Week honor this season while, Purdue Fort Wayne freshman goalkeeper Tor Erik Larsen earned his first career defensive player of the week accolade.

Shinyashiki continued his offensive assault by scoring all four goals in the Pioneers 4-3 road win against Omaha to open league play. No. 4 Denver trailed 2-0 in the second period before Shinyashiki found the back of the net three times in less than four minutes. Larsen improved his record to 5-3 after helping lead the Mastodons to two victories, including his first career shutout against Northern Kentucky.

 

Offensive Player of the Week

Andre Shinyashiki, Denver

Sr. | Forward | Sao Paulo, Brazil

• Scored all four Denver goals in a come-from-behind win at Omaha

•  Andre's four goals were a career-high

• His first three goals were scored in 3 minutes, 51 seconds, the eighth fastest three-consecutive goals by the same player in NCAA Division I history

• Extended his NCAA leading goals scored tally to 17

• Posted his fourth hat trick of the season and sixth match-winning goal of the season

• Broke Denver's single-season goals record with his 16th of the campaign

• Collected his fourth Summit League Offensive Player of the Week honor this season and seventh of his career

• Andre's seven career weekly honors rank third all-time for total weekly awards and first in offensive awards, while his four honors this season are tied for the most overall and offensive honors in a single-season

Defensive Player of the Week

Tor Erik Larsen, Purdue Fort Wayne

Fr. | Goalkeeper | Alesund, Norway

• Larsen recorded his first career shutout in a 3-0 win over Northern Kentucky

• Recorded 15 saves in two matches, including 10 in a 3-2 overtime win against Bowling Green

• Posted a goals against average of 0.99 in the Mastodons' two victories

• This is Larsen's first career defensive player of the week honor
