The Summit League Announces Week Seven men’s soccer awards

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – After strong performances against a nationally-ranked team and inside The Summit League, Denver swept the weekly awards for the second time this season. Senior forward Andre Shinyashiki picks up his fifth offensive player of the week award, while sophomore goalkeeper Will Palmquist earned his first career defensive player of the week award.

Shinyashiki continued his impressive season with two more goals to increase his NCAA-leading total to 21. His strong offensive performance this season has helped lead the Pioneers to the first No. 1 ranking in program history, as announced by Top Drawer Soccer on Monday. Palmquist made his first two starts of the season against No. 8 Creighton and Purdue Fort Wayne. The sophomore made every stop for the Pioneers, on his way to back-to-back shutouts and posted DU's season-high in saves with seven against the Blue Jays.

 

Offensive Player of the Week

Andre Shinyashiki, Denver

Sr. | Forward | Sao Paulo, Brazil

• Scored two goals in Denver's 2-0 win over Purdue Fort Wayne

• Earned his 13th career multi-goal game

• Earned his NCAA best eighth game-winning goal of the year

• Leads the NCAA in seven different categories, including total goals scored with 21. The next closest goal scorer only has 12 goals this season

• Collected his fifth Summit League Offensive Player of the Week honor this season and eighth of his career

• Shinyashiki's eight career weekly honors rank second all-time for total weekly awards and first in offensive awards

• His five honors this season are the most overall and offensive honors in a single-season

Defensive Player of the Week

Will Palmquist, Denver

• Recorded two shutouts in his first two starts of the season

• Made nine saves in the Pioneers two cleansheets

• Recorded DU's season-high in saves with seven at No. 8 Creighton
