DENVER – University of Denver men's soccer attacking midfielder Moshe Perez (Shim'a, Israel) and striker Andre Shinyashiki(Sao Paulo, Brazil) have been named to the initial list of invitees for the 2019 adidas MLS Player Combine.
In his first season with the program after transferring from Colorado Mesa, Perez played in 12 matches, making 11 starts in head coach Jamie Franks' squad. Perez scored three times and added six assists, including a goal and an assist on the game-winner in the Pioneers 3-2 extra-time win over then No. 3 Washington at the University of Denver Soccer Stadium. The Summit League All-Tournament Team pick also scored on a free kick in the Pioneers' NCAA Second Round match against Air Force.
A MAC Hermann Trophy Finalist and the 2018 United Soccer Coaches National Scholar Athlete of the Year, Shinyashiki made 83 appearances, including 67 starts, in his four-year Pioneer career, netting 51 goals and adding 15 assists. In 2018, Shinyashiki bagged 28 goals in 21 matches, including his first five career hat tricks and a four goal game in the Summit League opener at Omaha. Shinyashiki ranked first in the country in points per game (2.86), total points (60), goals per game (1.33), goals (28), game-winning goals (11) and shots on goal per game (2.86) this fall.
60 players from universities in the United States and Canada were invited for the Combine, scheduled to take place from Jan. 3-9 at Orlando City Stadium in Orlando, Fla. Prospective selections in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft will have an opportunity to play scrimmages for scouts of all MLS teams, as well as go through various tests and speak to interested teams ahead of the SuperDraft, which will be on Jan. 11 at McCormick Place convention center in Chicago. 2019 Expansion team FC Cincinnati will have the top pick in the SuperDraft.
