DENVER – The University of Denver men's soccer team sits at No. 12 in the Top Drawer Soccer Preseason Top-25, the final preseason ranking ahead of the start of the 2019 season this weekend.
Denver opens the campaign on Friday at Washington on Friday at 8:30 p.m .MT.
Earlier this month, Denver was voted to win the Summit League title for the seventh-straight year, while sitting 18th in the preseason coaches' poll and 17th in the College Soccer News poll.
The Pioneers' 2019 regular season schedule has four fixtures against teams in the coaches' preseason top-10. The Pioneers will leave the Mile High City to play No. 2 Indiana (Sept. 6/2 p.m. MT), No. 5 Stanford (Sept. 13/8 p.m. MT), No. 9 Notre Dame (Sept. 8/5 p.m. MT) and No. 10 Duke (Oct. 29/5 p.m. MT) in non-conference play.
DU hosts five regular season home games against [RV] SMU, [RV] Pacific, [RV] Rhode Island and Summit League match-ups against Eastern Illinois and Omaha. Denver also hosts the Summit League Tournament for the fifth time in six seasons this November at the University of Denver Soccer Stadium.
The Crimson and Gold add 12 newcomers to a squad that lost 12 letterwinners from a team that earned the program's third bye in the NCAA Tournament in the last four years. Denver does return five starters, including defensive midfielder Jacob Stensson (Stockholm, Sweden), who will wear the captain's armband for head coach Jamie Franks in 2019.
Denver dropped a 1-0 match to Air Force and defeated Gonzaga 2-0 in the preseason.
The Pioneers will open the 2019 campaign on Friday, August 30, with a trip to Washington (8:30 p.m. MT). DU will conclude the opening weekend against Seattle on Monday, September 2 (7 p.m. MT).
