SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – A rookie midfielder and a sophomore goalkeeper from Oral Roberts collected the initial Summit League men's soccer Player of the Week awards of the 2019 season, announced by league officials on Tuesday. Reed Berry scored a pair of goals in his collegiate debut to garner the offensive accolade, while Miles Motakef earned the league's initial defensive accolade for the second-consecutive season.
The duo's efforts helped the Golden Eagles open the campaign with a 4-1 victory over Drake. Berry opened the scoring in the 17th-minute with his first collegiate goal, then added an insurance goal in the second half after the Bulldogs had cut the deficit to 2-1.
Motakef, who earned a pair of defensive honors as a rookie in 2018, was credited with three saves as the Golden Eagles were the only Summit League squad to break into the win column during the opening weekend of play.
