SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – A pair of first-time recipients earned the latest Summit League Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week awards announced by league officials on Monday. Western Illinois midfielder Paul Kirdorf garnered the offensive accolade while Omaha defender Gonzalo Ledesma earned the defensive honor.

Kirdorf helped the Leathernecks snap a pair of 11-game losing streaks thanks to a pair of assists in a 4-3 victory over Denver. His first assist came on a go-ahead goal in the 20th-minute, then his corner kick in the 76th-minute led to the game-winning goal for the Leathernecks.

WIU had started the season 0-11 and had been winless in 11 previous matches against the preseason favorites to repeat as league champion.

Ledesma anchored a defense that yielded only one shot attempt in Omaha's 1-0 victory over Purdue Fort Wayne. His solid play on the back line also translated to the offensive end as he netted the game-winner for the Mavericks in the 73rd-minute. The goal was the first of the senior's career.
