SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – For the sixth consecutive season the Denver University men's swimming and diving team was voted by the league's six head coaches to win The Summit League's crown.

The Pioneers, winners of five straight Summit League Championships, collected all five of the possible first-place votes. Denver was followed in the preseason poll by South Dakota State, South Dakota, Western Illinois, Eastern Illinois and Valparaiso.

Points were compiled on a 5-4-3-2-1 basis, though each coach was not allowed to vote for their own team.

The 37th season of men's swimming and diving in The Summit League begins Sept. 28.

Summit League Preseason Swimmers and Divers to Watch

Colin Gilbert – Junior | Freestyle/Butterfly | Kamloops, British Columbia

• 2018 Summit League Male Swimmer of the Championships

• Eight career All-Summit League honors

• Won the 599 free and 1650 free at the CSCAA Invitational

Sid Farber – Junior | Freestyle | Portland, Ore.

• 10 career All-Summit League honors

• Won the 50 free at 2017 Speedo United States Junior National Championships

• Part of the first All-America relay in program history, finishing 15th in the prelims of the 200 free relay with a school-record 1:17.43

Alex Morgan – Junior | Diving | Dyer, Ind.

• Led the Pioneers with a fifth-place finish in the 3-meter dive at The Summit League Championships with a 283.40

• Won the 1-meter dive in the Pacific Invite with a 247.80

• Led the Pioneer men in diving in a dual with Minnesota, tallying a 252.15

 

Eastern Illinois

Forrest Baumgartner – Freshman | Freestyle | Plymouth, Ind.

• Holds numerous high school, school records including the 100 butterfly, 100 freestyle, 50 freestyle and 200 individual medley

• Earned the Tyson Award for the being the best swimmer and role model on the team

• Was named captain in his senior year

 

South Dakota

Hunter Padgett – Senior | Freestyle/Backstroke | Carlsbad, Calif.

• Five career All-Summit League honors

• Member of the 400 free relay that placed second at The Summit League Championships in 2018

• Member of three relay teams that broke school records

Elbert Chuang – Sophomore | Breaststroke | Richmond Hill, Ontario

• Earned All-Summit League honors in the 800 freestyle

• A member of the Summit League Academic Honor Roll

• Helped set a school record in the 800 freestyle relay (6:42.70)

Isaac Morris – Junior | Diving | Albuquerque, N.M.

• 2017-18 Summit League Men's Diver of the Championships

• Two-time member of The Summit League Academic Honor Roll

• Four career All-Summit League honors

 

South Dakota State

Jerod Miller – Sophomore | Backstroke/Freestyle | Baker City, Ore.

• Holds the school record in the 200 backstroke

• Finished fourth in 200 backstroke, sixth in 500 freestyle and sixth in 100 backstroke at the 2018 Summit League Championships

• 2018 Summit League Academic Honor Roll

Wyatt Rumrill – Junior | Breaststroke | Pierre, S.D.

• Two-time All-Summit League honree

• Holds the school record in the 200 breast and the 400 medley relay

• Two-time Summit League Academic Honor Roll

Mitch Raihle – Sophomore | Diving | Spring Lake Park, Minn.

• Holds the school record in the 3-meter and platform dives

• In 2017-18, scored season-highs in 1-meter against St. Cloud State and in 3-meter against Midland/ICCC

• One career Summit League Diver of the Week honor

 

Western Illinois

Brennan Bladel – Junior | Butterfly/Individual Medley/Backstroke | Davenport, Iowa

• Earned All-Summit League honors as a freshman in 2016-17

• Set five new individual personal-bests, including four at the 2018 Summit League Championships

• Won the 100 IM (56.38) on Oct. 21, 2017-18 at IUPUI

 

Valparaiso

Dylan Kirar – Junior | Freestyle/Individual Medley | Arvada, Colo.

• Set new program records in the 500 (4:37.68) and 1650 (16:07.73) freestyles as a junior 

• Placed fourth in the 1650 free, sixth in the 400 IM and eighth in the 500 free at the 2018 Summit League Championships

• Ranked third on the team in the 200 IM (2:01.00)

Dylan Ogle – Sophomore | Butterfly/Freestyle | Simpsonville, S.C.

• Valpo's top butterfly swimmer, paced the Crusaders in both the 100 fly (52.25) and the 200 fly (1:53.14)

• Finished fifth at the 2018 Summit League Championships in the 200 fly and 12th in the 100 fly

• Member of the Summit League Academic Honor Roll
