South Dakota, North Dakota State earn weekly honors

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Summit League track and field athletes continued to notch personal best marks and nationally ranked performances during another weekend of competition. South Dakota's Brithton Senior and Chris Nilsen earned the athlete of the week honors on the men's side while North Dakota State's Kelby Anderson and Maddy Nilles took home the award on the women's.

Senior achieved another incredible performance as he won the 60-meter hurdles at the Adidas Classic. He clocked a time of 7.79 to improve his previous time from the week before by three-hundredths of a second. He is now .02 off from the USD school record in the event.

Nilsen highlighted the Coyotes performance at the Adidas Classic. He vaulted an indoor best mark of 19-0.75 to break his own South Dakota school record and the facility record. His vault marks the 12th time in his career that he has lept over the 19-foot barrier.

On the women's side, Anderson ran away with the 3,000m title at the Jack Johnson Classic. She won the event with a time of 9:33.60 which now makes her the league leader in the event by 13 seconds. Anderson currently ranks 40th in the NCAA in the event. 

Nilles improved her school record by a foot in the weight throw after launching a throw of 72-04.50 (22.06m) to win the event at the Jack Johnson Classic. Her mark not only bested her old school record, but also moved her up to sixth in the NCAA in the event this season.

Chris Nilsen, South Dakota

  • Earned his 23rd career athlete of the week accolade and second this season
  • Cleared 19-0.75 to win the pole vault event at the Adidas Classic
  • Leads the NCAA in the event
  • Broke his own USD record and facility record
  • His mark is the 14th-best jump in NCAA indoor history

  • Ranks sixth in the nation in the weight throw
  • Leads the league in the event by nearly seven feet this season
