Weekly Notebook 14 W/ Stats

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The final month of the regular season is in full swing and South Dakota and South Dakota State have separated themselves from the pack and enjoy a three-game lead in the standings. With teams beginning to play each of the second time this season, the rest of the standings are sure to see a lot of movement in the next couple of weeks.

The Opening Tip

Western Illinois' senior guard Taylor Higginbotham led her squad to a perfect 2-0 record last week. She scored 23-points against the Fighting Hawks before scoring a season-high 27-points against the Bison to close out the week. In the Leathernecks win over North Dakota State, Higginbotham became Western Illinois all-time leading scorer with 1,715 career points. She is currently ranked 11th on The Summit League all-time scoring chart, behind Chazny Morris of UMKC who scored 1,806 points between 2006 and 2010.

Things to Watch

• South Dakota has been receiving votes in either the AP Top 25 or the WBCA Top 25 for the past 10 weeks. This past week The Yotes were the last team out of the rankings in both polls. With a solid week and some loses ahead of them in the polls, the Yotes could become the first Summit League program to earn a national top 25 ranking since 2009 when South Dakota State was ranked No. 16 in the final AP Poll

• South Dakota State's Macy Miller continues to climb the Summit League scoring charts. In her career, she has scored 2,112 career points and is just 166 points shy of becoming the League's all-time leading scorer. Miller is averaging 17.2 points per game and has at least seven games left to play

• Denver's Lauren Loven has made 83 three-pointers this season, 14th most in a Summit League single-season. The current record is 99 held by Jaci Bigham of Oral Roberts during the 2009-10 season. Loven is averaging 3.7 makes per game and with at least eight games remaining

• Western Illinois' Taylor Higginbotham is just two made 3-pointers away from moving into the top 10 for most made three's in Summit League history. She currently has 233 career makes. She is also just four made 3-pointers away from moving into sole possession of ninth on the all-time list. She will pass Anne Hafeli of Oakland (2002-06) for 10th and Suzie Hammel of Valparaiso (2000-04) for ninth

• A limited number of lower level all-session tickets for the 2019 Summit League Basketball Championships went on sale. For more details click HERE.
