Denver’s Nelson secures player of the week honors

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Denver's Madison Nelson secured her second Summit League Women's Basketball Player of the Week honor of the season after being named to the Pioneer Thanksgiving Classic All-Tournament Team.

Nelson notched the second 20-20 game in program history with 24 points and a career-high 21 rebounds in the Pioneers win over UC Irvine on Friday. Ten of those rebounds against the Anteaters came on the offensive end. The first 20-20 game in program history was set by her last season at the same tournament. She capped her play in the Thanksgiving Classic with a season-high 25 points and pulled down 13 rebounds during the overtime loss to Alabama A&M on Saturday.

Her double-double against the Bulldogs brought her season total to six straight double-doubles and gave her 18 for her career. She finished the weekend averaging 24.5 ppg and 17.0 rgp while going 13-for-14 from the foul line. On the season, Nelson is averaging a double-double with 19.3 points and 12.8 rebounds per game.
