Denver Head Coach Lindsay Kuhle (Post Round Interview)
NEWTON, Kan. – Denver took over the top spot on the team leaderboard after the second round of the #SummitGF Women's Championship thanks a 21-stroke improvement from day one. The Pioneers were paced by Camille Enright, who shot the low round of the day with a 73 (+1), a 22-stroke personal improvement after posting the highest score of the day during round one at the Sand Creek Station Golf Club.
DU also got a boost from junior Mary Weinstein and senior Sophie Newlove as the All-Summit League duo moved into the top two spots on the individual leaderboard.
All total, the Pioneers shot a 301 (+13) and their 36-hole total of 623 (+47) gives them an eight-stroke lead over South Dakota (631; +55) heading into Tuesday's final round.
Weinstein started her round four-over through the first seven holes, then regrouped to shoot two-under the rest of the way to card a 74 (+2). After an opening-round 78 (+6), the league's top-ranked player has a one-shot lead in the race for medalist honors with a 36-hole total of 150 (+8).
Newlove, who also had an opening-round 78 (+6), carded a 75 (+3) in her second round and has a two-day total of 151 (+9) as she looks to repeat as Championship MVP.
The Coyotes turned in a 308 (+55) and hold a two-shot lead on Oral Roberts, who matched that total in round two. That two-stroke advantage came from the 6-iron of Megan Munneke who made her first career hole-in-one on No. 13. She finished with a 77 (+5). USD also got a team-best 74 (+2) from Laerke Jensen, who is in fourth place with a two-day total of 155 (+11).
The Golden Eagles moved into the top three with Isabella Caamal leading that charge after posting a 75 (+3). South Dakota State (635: +59) held a one-stroke lead entering the day but fell back three spots after turning a team score of 314 (+26). The Jackrabbits enter the final day 12 shots behind the Pioneers and are paced by Teresa Toscano, who sits in third with a two-day total of 154 (+10).
Much better conditions awaited the 45-player field after all nine teams battled high winds in Monday's opening round.
Reigning team champion North Dakota State was five shots better in round two, but the Bison are in fifth place and 28 shots behind (651: +75).
Purdue Fort Wayne (655: +79) sits in sixth, followed by North Dakota (656; +80), who moved up a spot to seventh with a 327 (+39). Omaha fell to eighth place (658; +82) while Western Illinois, who was five shots better as well on Monday, remained in ninth (663; +87).
