Pioneers close out season at Auburn Regional

OPELIKA, Ala. -- The Denver women's golf team closed out its season with a 301 (+13) on the final day of the Auburn Regional as the Pioneers posted their best team score of the 54-hole event. Coupled with a pair of 304's from the opening two rounds of the regional, DU finished with a 905 (+45) to take 15th in the 18-team field.

Senior Sophie Newlove was the top Pioneer golfer in the final round, carding a 72 (E) in what would be her final collegiate round. She made a team-high four birdies and tied for 67th at the event played at the Saugahatchee Country Club. Freshman Trussy Li was the steadiest of the Pioneers throughout regional play, closing with a 74 (+2) to finish with a team-best score of 223 (+7) and tie for 41st. 

Junior Mary Weinstein, the 2019 Summit League Championship MVP, was second among the DU golfers, three shots off Li's pace with a 226 (+10). Weinstein closed with a 75 (+3).

Vanderbilt won the Auburn Regional after shooting a final-round 280 (-8) to record a final team score of 860 (-4). The Commodores were three shots clear of runner-up Florida State (863; -1). Those were the only two teams to finish under par, but will be joined at the NCAA Championships by Duke (868; +4), Virginia (873; +9), host Auburn (874; +10) and Tennessee (876; +12), who all finished inside the top six.
