ELMHURST, Ill. – Five women's tennis players were selected to the 2013 Summit League Academic All-League Team as voted by the Faculty Athletic Representatives and Sports Information Directors of the league's nine member institutions. Student-athletes were chosen for the honor based on their academic and athletic performances this season.
Regular season and tournament champion Fort Wayne led the way with two selections in Anita Henestrosa and Caterina Kiefer. Joining the duo are South Dakota State's Jenny Blackburne, South Dakota's Yamini Reddy and Omaha's Alex Tran.
Three of the Academic All-League selections (Henestrosa, Kiefer and Reddy) were previously named All-Summit League.
Henestrosa, who has a 3.36 GPA in communication, was The Summit League's Player of the Year after posting a 7-0 league singles record and a 6-0 league doubles mark. Overall, she owns a 22-6 singles ledger and a 24-4 doubles record.
Kiefer, with a 3.52 GPA in business management, went 5-0 in Summit League matches and owns a 20-4 overall singles record this season. In doubles play, she compiled a 6-0 league record and 24-4 overall mark.
Blackburne, with a 3.909 GPA in mechanical engineering, went 3-2 in The Summit League and was 11-11 overall. Her doubles records included a 4-1 league record and 16-7 overall mark. She helped South Dakota State to its first Summit League Tournament appearance.
Reddy, who has a 3.791 GPA in business management, went 3-0 in The Summit League and 16-3 overall. She helped guide South Dakota to its first Summit League Tournament berth in school history.
Tran, with a 3.755 GPA in biology, posted a 4-2 Summit League record in Omaha's first season in the league and totaled 10 overall victories this season.
To be eligible for the Academic All-League team, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.30 (on a 4.0 scale), completed at least one full academic year at the current institution and participated in 50 percent of their team's competitions.
