Omaha’s Lawley and Lorentz receive tennis weekly accolades

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Omaha won multiple matches on both the men's and women's side, earning them a sweep in this week's awards. Men's tennis athlete Davis Lawley and women's tennis athlete Natalie Lorentz captured this week's Summit League athlete of the week awards. This is the first career weekly honor for both Lawley and the second-straight honor for Lorentz.

Lorentz and the Mavericks opened the weekend with Saint Louis, as Omaha won, 5-2. In that match, Lorentz and her doubles partner, Marie Kapelevich, earned the doubles point with a 6-3 win at the No. 2 spot. In singles play, Lorentz won her match 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 3 spot. In a 4-3 victory against Northern Illionis, Lorentz was able to pick up a 6-2 win at the No. 2 spot in doubles play and recorded a three-set win at the third singles spot.

On the men's side, Lawley and the Mavericks faced in-state foe Creighton, edging out the Blue Jays with a 4-3 win. Lawley and doubles teammate Abdoul Ouattara teamed up to collect a 6-1 victory at the No. 2 spot, while Lawley tied up the match with a victory at the No. 3 spot via retirement. Against Saint Louis, Omaha blanked the Billikens 7-0, as Lawley and Ouattara clinched the doubles point with a 6-1 triumph at the second spot. Lawley would make it a 3-0 contest at the No. 6 spot with a convincing 6-0, 6-1 victory.

  • Earned his first career athlete of the week award
  • Recorded a 2-0 mark at the No. 4 and 6 spot in singles action
  • Won both doubles matches with a 6-1 final, improving his doubles record to 3-2

Natalie Lorentz, Omaha
Junior | St. Louis Park, Minn.

  • Earned her second-straight athlete of the week award
  • Compiled a 2-0 record in singles play at the No. 2 and 3 spot and went 2-0 in doubles action at the second and third position
  • Helped the Mavericks to its best start in D1 program history with a 5-1 record, which is the best start since 2008
