NDSU Captures Top-Seed for Summit League Volleyball Championship

ELMHURST, Ill. - North Dakota State, the defending league champion, earns the No. 1 seed for The Summit League Volleyball Championship. This marks the fourth-straight regular season title for the Bison and third outright after tying with IPFW last season. Also joining NDSU in championship field are IPFW, Oral Roberts and Oakland.
The 2011 volleyball championship takes place Nov. 18-19, at the Hilliard Gates Sports Center in Fort Wayne, Ind., and is hosted by IPFW.
The top-seeded Bison tied their Division I school-record with a 24-8 overall regular season record. This marks the fifth-straight postseason appearance for NDSU and third No. 1 seed since joining the league in 2007.
The Mastodons capture the No. 2 seed with a league record of 14-4 and advance to their fifth consecutive league championship.
The Golden Eagles and Golden Grizzlies tied for third place in the regular season standings, both with a league record of 12-6. Oral Roberts claims the No. 3 seed by virtue of defeating NDSU once in league play, while Oakland fell twice to the Bison. ORU advances to its first championship since 2008. Oakland receives the No. 4 seed and will make its first-ever postseason trip to the league championship. The Golden Grizzlies set a Division I school record for wins in a season with an overall record of 18-10.
No. 1 North Dakota State (24-8, 16-2 Summit) faces No. 4 Oakland (18-10, 12-6 Summit) in the first semifinal match on Friday, Nov. 18 at 5 p.m. (EST). The second match will pit host No. 2 IPFW (21-8, 14-4 Summit) against No. 3 Oral Roberts (19-9, 12-6 Summit) at 7:30 p.m. (EST). The league championship concludes with Saturday's championship match at 7 p.m. (EST). The winner claims the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
