SIOUX FALLS, S.D. –The Summit League volleyball teams enter the second half of season with only Denver remaining undefeated. The fight for the top six tops in the standings continues this week with all teams in taking the court.

Around The League

  • Denver remains atop the national rankings in aces per set (2.11) and third in match win-loss percentage (0.950).  Individually, Lydia Bartalo stayed in the NCAA national rankings in aces per set as she currently sits fifth (0.56).
  • The Pioneers continue to hold on to their perfect league record as they head into the weekend with matches against North Dakota State and North Dakota on the docket. Of the 29 sets in league play the Pios have played, they have won 24.
  • The Mavericks' suffered their first league loss to Denver in a five-set thriller Tuesday night. Omaha is the first team in the Summit League and first team since Sacramento State on Sept. 1 to take Denver to five sets. 
  • Omaha looks to bounce back after the tough loss as the Mavs hit the road to Purdue Fort Wayne Friday and host North Dakota State Saturday.
  • The series between North Dakota State and Omaha has only a one-match deficit as Omaha holds the upper hand 43-42. The last time the Bison and the Mavericks saw each other was Sept. 23 when the Mavs won in five.
  • Before meeting the Mavericks, the Bison will make the trip out to Denver to play the Pioneers on Friday. There is a two-match deficit in the series between the two as Denver leads 9-7.
  • Purdue Fort Wayne leads the league in total assists (1,079) and recently saw senior setter Madison Jaqua become the 13th player in Summit League history to reach the 4,000-assist mark. The Mastodons rank second in the league in both kills (1,148) and kills per set (13.67). Purdue Fort Wayne is scheduled to host Omaha Friday and visit Western Illinois on Sunday.
  • Western Illinois will take the court once this weekend for the match against Purdue Fort Wayne. The Leathernecks dropped a tough 3-2 loss to the Jackrabbits last Friday followed by a 3-0 loss to Denver. They look to capture their first league victory this weekend.
  • South Dakota State also has a single match this weekend as the Jackrabbits travel down I-29 for the second meeting of the season with South Dakota. South Dakota State leads the all-time series between the two 58-29, but the Coyotes have won the last six, including a sweep on Oct. 7.
  • South Dakota will stay in the Sanford Coyote Sports Center all weekend to host South Dakota State and Oral Roberts (Sunday). The Coyotes are currently leading the league in digs per set (18.30) and ranked seventh in the NCAA.
  • Oral Roberts will spend a majority of next week up north with three matches in five days. The Golden Eagles will host North Dakota Friday before traveling to South Dakota for a match Sunday and North Dakota State Tuesday.
  • This past Sunday, South Dakota handed North Dakota its first sweep on home territory since Sept. 3, 2016, when UND dropped a match to Texas Tech.  The Fighting Hawks look to bounce back as they travel to Oral Roberts Friday and Denver Sunday.
  • UND leads the league in kills (1,155), digs (1,588), solo blocks (47) and total blocks (194).
