Wurster and Slaughter share offensive award, Crucis earns defensive honor

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Purdue Fort Wayne right side Madelyn Wurster and South Dakota outside hitter Sami Slaughter shared the Summit League's Offensive Player of the Week accolade while the Mastodon's libero Rachael Crucis claimed her second defensive player of the week award.

Wurster and Crucis helped the Mastodons to another 2-0 weekend in league play. Wurster tallied 13 kills on a .345 hitting performance in the 3-1 win against North Dakota State and followed it up with a team and career-high 19 kills with a .469 clip against North Dakota. Crucis registered 24 digs and 12 assists against NDSU then turned around and posted 22 digs and six assists in the 3-1 victory over UND.

Slaughter and the Coyotes also went 2-0 in league play last weekend defeating Omaha and Denver. Slaughter hammered down 16 kills on .256 hitting in the 3-1 win over Omaha and followed up that performance with another 16 kills on a .414 clip to pace USD to a 3-1 victory over second-place Denver.

  • Earned her second offensive player of the week accolade of the season
  • Reached double figures in kills in eight of USD's 12 league matches
  • Finished the weekend with 32 total kills, 4.00 kills per set and an average clip of .319
