Golden Eagle newcomers receive weekly accolades

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. –Oral Roberts' freshmen Braden Clapp and Sharon Jepkemoi tabbed The Summit League Cross Country Male and Female Athletes of the Week after competing in the Chile Pepper Festival in Fayetteville, Ark. this past weekend. More than 860 runners competed in the festival this year, with 100 teams taking the course.

Braden Clapp, Oral Roberts

Freshman | Fairfax, Okla.

  • Earned his first career athlete of the week honor
  • Was the first Golden Eagle to cross the finish line
  • Ran the 8K for the first time and finished with a time of 28:28.4

Sharon Jepkemoi, Oral Roberts

Freshman | Eldoret, Kenya

  • Received her first career weekly honor
  • Broke 20 minutes for the first time with a finish of 19:48.9 in the 5K

Dropped two minutes off her time (21:56.39) from her last competition and three minutes off her finish (22:34.4) from the first race of the season
