Fargo is the most populous city in the State of North Dakota, with a population of 118,523 which accounts for over 15 percent of the state population. In 2014, Forbes magazine ranked Fargo as the fourth fastest-growing small city in the United States.
The Ellig Sports Complex includes the Schlanser Track. Completed in 1997 at an original cost of $2.3 million, the complex is home to the Bison outdoor track and field programs. The running track has a Pro-Turf surface over all nine lanes and is 400 meters in length. Bleachers for up to 3,500 spectators, formerly at longtime NDSU football home Dacotah Field, line both sides of the track and natural-grass field. Restrooms and a concession stand are housed between the track and softball diamonds.
