Player of the Week

Darleen Fernandez, Southern Utah

So., 3B, Las Vegas, Nev./Las Vegas HS

Fernandez earned The Summit League's Player of the Week award after leading the Thunderbirds to a 2-2 record at the Red Desert Classic over the weekend. The sophomore third baseman hit .429 (6-for-14), with three doubles, a pair of homers, two runs and seven RBI. Her two-run blast against Idaho State broke the tie game and gave SUU the winning margin of victory. She hit a pair of homers on the opening weekend of play, after hitting just one in all of 2008. Fernandez had at least one hit in every game except against No. 15/21 Washington.
