earned The Summit League's Player of the Week award after leading
the Thunderbirds to a 2-2 record at the Red Desert Classic over the
weekend. The sophomore third baseman hit .429 (6-for-14), with
three doubles, a pair of homers, two runs and seven RBI. Her
two-run blast against Idaho State broke the tie game and gave SUU
the winning margin of victory. She hit a pair of homers on the
opening weekend of play, after hitting just one in all of 2008.
Fernandez had at least one hit in every game except against No.
15/21 Washington.

Phillips
was named The Summit League's Pitcher of the Week after she hurled
a no-hitter against Bryant in her first collegiate start. The
freshman from Odessa, Texas, struck out seven batters and only
allowed three base runners en route to her second career victory.
On the weekend, Phillips went 2-1, with a 1.40 ERA and fanned 19
batters in 19.1 innings of work, allowing just three earned runs.
She pitched in four of the five games and helped the Ladies to a
4-1 overall mark.
