ELMHURST, Ill. - Oakland's Keith Benson earned his third Summit
League Player of the Week award of the season after averaging 21.5
points and 9.5 rebounds while leading the Golden Grizzlies to a
pair of league victories. Benson, who also received the award on
Nov. 30 and Dec. 14, garnered his fourth career honor.
The junior center scored 23 points on 9-of-14 shooting and
pulled down 13 rebounds with three blocked shots as Oakland
defeated IUPUI Saturday in a matchup of league unbeatens. In his
previous outing against Western Illinois, Benson scored 20 points
with six rebounds and a pair of blocks. Earlier in the week in a
non-league game against Alma, Benson scored 15 points with 11
rebounds in a season-low 18 minutes.
For the week, Benson shot 56.1 percent (23-of-41) from the
field, including his first three-pointer of the year. The native of
Farmington Hills, Mich., has scored in double figures in eight
straight games and 15-of-16 contests this season.
