UMKC's Berryman, IPFW's Recht Named Tennis Players of the Week
ELMHURST, Ill. - UMKC's Bret Berryman and IPFW's Amy Recht
were named Summit League men's and women's tennis players of the
week for their performances Feb. 9-15.
Bret Berryman, UMKC
Sr., Blue Springs, Mo./Ball State Univ.
Berryman went a combined 2-0, winning both his singles and doubles
match, as UMKC posted a 5-2 victory at Creighton. The award is the
third of Berryman's career. At No. 1 singles, Berryman notched a
6-4, 7-5 win over Billy Paluch. Berryman teamed with Patrick Smith
at No. 1 doubles for an 8-4 victory over CU's tandem of
Christian/Paluch. Berryman owns a 3-0 singles record and 2-0
doubles mark this season and has helped the Kangaroos to a 3-0
start.

Amy Recht IPFW

Recht went 3-0 in singles play and picked up a pair of doubles wins
in three matches last week to claim her second consecutive award
and eighth career honor. All three of Recht's singles victories
came in straight sets at the No. 1 position as she became the first
women's player to win back-to-back weekly accolades since the 2008
season. Against Cleveland State, Recht won 6-4, 6-0 over Catrine
Bjerrehus at the No. 1 position. In the match vs. Robert Morris,
Recht bested Clarissa Chen 6-0, 6-1 and teamed with Ingrid Ballus
for an 8-3 No. 1 doubles win over Chen/Alves. Recht wrapped up the
week with a 6-0, 6-1 triumph over Dayton's Julie Kirkland and again
teamed with Ballus at No. 1 doubles for an 8-2 win over
Kirkland/Dickerhoof.
