UMKC's Smith, IPFW's Recht Named Tennis Players of the Week
ELMHURST, Ill. - UMKC's Patrick Smith and IPFW's Amy Recht
were named Summit League men's and women's tennis players of the
week for their performances Feb. 2-8.
Patrick Smith, UMKC
Sr., Munich, Germany/Max-Planck Gymnasium
Smith went a combined 3-0 in singles and doubles play for his
third career honor as UMKC defeated Murray State (5-1) and swept
Missouri Valley Champion Southern Illinois (4-0) to open the season
last weekend. Against Murray State, Smith notched a straight-set
win over Luka Milicevic, 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2 singles and teamed with
Bret Berryman for an 8-3 victory at No. 1 doubles over the Racers'
duo of Clos/Berardo. In the match against SIU, Smith rallied to
defeat Brandon Florez, 3-6, 7-6 (5), 6-2 at No. 2.

Amy Recht IPFW
Jr., Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead
Recht went 2-0 in singles play and added a doubles victory last
weekend for her seventh career accolade. Against Western Michigan,
Recht accounted for IPFW's lone point with a 6-3, 3-6, 7-5 victory
over Emily Dudzik at No. 1 singles. In her next outing, Recht
helped the Mastodons to a 5-2 victory with wins at No. 1 singles
and No. 1 doubles. In singles play, Recht topped Kelly Drvaric,
6-4, 6-2, and teamed with Ingrid Ballus for a 8-2 doubles win over
Drvaric/Kastenholz.
