Oakland Captures Both Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week Honors

ELMHURST, Ill. - Oakland's Amr el Sayed and Vanessza Balogh were named The Summit League's Swimming and Diving Athletes of the Week for their performances Oct. 25-31.


MEN'S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Amr el Sayed, Oakland
So., Alexandria, Egypt/El Abasego
El Sayed captures his second career Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week award and first of the season after two individual first-place finishes to lead Oakland past Wayne State, 175-118. The sophomore won the 200 Free with a league-best time of 1:40.27. He also finished first in the 500 Free with a time of 4:34.91, the second-best league time, only 0:00.81 behind the league leader.

Also nominated: Tony Carroll, IUPUI; Thad Stoddard, South Dakota; Wil Hogue, South Dakota State; Jacob Shain, Western Illinois.

Previous winners: Oct. 18 - Nick Evans, Oakland; Oct. 25 - Tony Carroll, IUPUI.


WOMEN'S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Vanessza Balogh, Oakland

So., Budapest, Hungary/Csik Terenc Gimnazium

Balogh earns her fifth career Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week honor and second of the season after winning two individual events to help the Golden Grizzlies defeat Wayne State, 174-121. She won the 100 Breast with a time of 1:05.07 and the 200 Breast in 2:19.70, both league-best times. The sophomore also swam in a 200 IM exhibition posting a league-best time of 2:07.81 and was a member of the winning 200 Medley Relay team.
