UMKC's Hasandedic, IPFW's Ballus Claim Season's Initial Player of the Week Honors

ELMHURST, Ill. - UMKC's Nino Hasandedic and IPFW's Ingrid Ballus
were named as The Summit League's men's and women's tennis players
of the week for their performances through Jan. 31. The awards mark
the first weekly honors of the season.
Nino Hasandedic, UMKC

Hasandedic garners a weekly honor after making his UMKC
debut with a victory at the No. 1 position. The newcomer topped
Drake's Mauricio Ballivian, who had won the Missouri Valley
Conference's Singles Championship the previous week, in three sets
(6-7 (4), 6-4, 10-8). Hasandedic is 1-0 on the season in singles
play and holds a 0-1 mark in doubles.

Ballus earns her third career award after opening the season
with a perfect 3-0 singles mark and a pair of doubles victories.
The two-time all-league performer won all three matches at the No.
2 position in straight sets, besting Robert Morris' Carla Limon
(6-3, 6-0), Cleveland State's Kara Sherwood (6-0, 6-2) and
Detroit's Carolina Espinosa (6-1, 6-3). In doubles play, Ballus
teamed with Amy Recht at No. 1 for wins over RMU's Chen/Limon (8-0)
and CSU's Bjerrehus/Bush (8-4). Ballus is 4-1 on the season and has
helped the defending Summit League champions to a 4-1 start.
