IUPUI's Volz, IPFW's Kobayashi Earn Player of the Week Honors

ELMHURST, Ill. - IUPUI's Nick Volz and IPFW's Yuka Kobayashi
were named as The Summit League's men's and women's tennis players
of the week for their performances Feb. 1-7.

Volz garners his first career honor after posting his
first straight-set victory of the season over Bradley's Juan
Cuadrado (6-3, 6-3) at the No. 2 position. In doubles play, Volz
teamed with Joel Modesitt to top BU's Cuadrado/Romanet (8-5) for
the duo's fourth-straight doubles victory. Volz played a role in
two of IUPUI's three points in the match against Bradley. For the
season, Volz is 3-4 in singles play and 4-3 in doubles.

Yuka Kobayashi, IPFW

Kobayashi earns her second career award and first of the
season after compiling a 2-0 singles record and 2-0 doubles mark
while helping IPFW to a pair of victories. In singles play at the
No. 5 position, Kobayashi notched a straight-set victory over
Eastern Illinois' Amanda Dibbs (6-3, 6-4) and rallied to best
Wright State's Taylor Hines (6-7 (5), 6-1, 12-10). While teaming
with Raquel Vescovi at No. 3 doubles, Kobayashi's tandem posted a
pair of 8-4 victories over EIU's Dibbs/Laird and WSU's
Girgash/Tuscany. Kobayashi is 2-3 in singles and 4-3 in doubles
while the Mastodons' have won six of their first seven matches this
season.
