IPFW's Staschuk and Cronin and SDSU's Winter Earn Softball Co-Player and Pitcher of the Week Honors

ELMHURST, Ill. - IPFW's Rachel Staschuk and South Dakota State's Tina Winter and IPFW's Courtney Cronin were named Summit League Softball Co-Players and Pitcher of the Week for their performances during the week of March 14-20.


CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Rachel Staschuk, IPFW
Sr., 1B (Delta, British Comlumbia/Sands Secondary)
Staschuk earns her first career Player of the Week award after leading the IPFW offense to a sweep over UMKC. The senior first basemen recorded at least one hit in all three games on the weekend including two multiple-hit games. She opened the weekend 2-for-3 with two extra base hits (2B and HR), two runs scored and a RBI. She ended the series in similar fashion going a perfect 2-for-2 with a homer, two RBI and one run scored. For the weekend, Staschuk batted a .625, recorded a .700 on-base percentage and a 1.500 slugging percentage with five hits in eight at-bats, one double, two home runs, three RBI and three runs scored.


CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Tina Winter, South Dakota State
So., 3B (Omaha, Neb./Skutt Catholic)
Winter captures her first career Player of the Week honor after pacing the South Dakota State offense as it swept Centenary in a three-game series. The third basemen posted back-to-back multiple-hit games opening the weekend going a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles and two runs scored. She then came back in game two of the doubleheader to hit 4-for-5 with a double, a home run, two runs scored and one RBI. For the weekend, she batted .700, recorded a .750 on-base percentage and 1.300 slugging percentage with seven hits in 10 at-bats, including three doubles, a homer, five runs scored and one RBI.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Courtney Cronin, IPFW

Jr., RHP (North Delta, British Columbia/North Delta Senior Secondary)
Cronin garners her third Pitcher of the Week honor of the season and the sixth of her career after posting a 2-0 record on the weekend, pitching two complete games and shutting out UMKC, 2-0. She opened the weekend with her fifth shutout of the season, giving up two hits and no walks while fanning eight batters. She also helped herself offensively, going a perfect 3-for-3 from the plate. To wrap up the weekend and give the Mastodons a sweep over UMKC, she threw her second complete game in two days allowing five hits and three walks, striking out seven batters, in a 7-2 win over the Kangaroos. For the weekend, the right-handed hurler struck out 15 batters and gave up seven hits and two earned runs in 14 innings of work for a 1.00 ERA, holding UMKC to a .156 batting average for the series.
