WIU's Schlotfeldt and UMKC's Friese Capture Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week Awards
ELMHURST, Ill. - Western Illinois' Erin Schlofeldt and UMKC's
Deanna Friese were named Summit League Softball Players and Pitcher
of the Week for their performances during the week of March
21-27.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Erin Schlotfeldt, Western Illinois

Schlotfeldt garners her first career Player of the Week
award after leading Western Illinois to a 2-2 weekend and a series
win over IUPUI (2-1). She opened the week 2-for-3 with a homer,
two RBI and one run scored in the Leathernecks' loss to Wichita
State. In game one of the three game series against IUPUI,
Schlotfeldt went 3-for-4, including her second home run of the
week, three RBI and one run scored. The following day she had her
best game of the week to open the doubleheader with a perfect
3-for-3 performance at the plate including two extra-base hits (a
homer and a triple), driving in five runs and scoring two. For the
week, Schlotfeldt hit a .667 (8-for-12), including four extra base
hits, three home runs and a triple, 10 RBI, four runs scored with a
1.583 slugging percentage and a .706 on-base percentage. She leads
the league in slugging percentage (.837) and ranks second in
batting average (.408).

PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Deanna Friese, UMKC
So., RHP (Kennesaw, Ga./Kennesaw Mountain)
Friese garners her third career Pitcher of the Week award
and second of the season after posting a 2-0 record against South
Dakota State, including a complete-game shutout. The right-handed
hurler opened the three-game series by blanking the Jackrabbits
with a one-hit performance, while striking out nine batters in
seven innings. She picked up her second win of the weekend in game
one of Sunday's doubleheader, fanning another nine batters, while
yielding four hits and one run. On the weekend, Friese recorded a
0.81 ERA with 20 strikeouts, allowing seven hits and two runs,
while holding SDSU to .125 batting average in 17.1 innings of
work. She currently leads the league in strikeouts (122), wins
(12) and ERA (2.22 overall and a 1.72 in league play).
