WIU's Hammers and SUU's Ivanova Named Players of the Week

ELMHURST, Ill. - Western Illinois' Patrick Hammers and Southern
Utah's Alex Ivanova were named men's and women's tennis players of
the week as announced by The Summit League for their performances
March 22-28.

Hammers earns his first award of the season and second of
his career after opening league play with a 3-0 singles record to
extend his win streak to five straight. In his first two Summit
League matches, Hammers recorded straight-set victories at the No.
3 singles position over IPFW's Daniel Kang (6-0, 6-3) and
Centenary's Garrett Whipple (6-0, 6-0) and rallied for a win over
South Dakota State's Carl Lundberg (5-7, 6-1, 6-4). At No. 3
doubles, Hammers teamed with Ben Yue for a win over IPFW's
Kanavos/Guyer (8-3) and led CC's Grace/Reeks (6-5). Hammers' wins
helped WIU open its Summit League slate with a 3-0
record.

Ivanova garners her first career award after posting a 4-0
singles record and notching three doubles victories during the
week. Playing the No. 2 singles position, Ivanova collected
straight-set wins over Seattle's Ariel Ohno (6-0, 6-3), South
Dakota's Veronika Makasov (6-1, 6-1) and North Dakota's Erin
Kappers (6-1, 6-1) and produced the clinching win in a three-set
triumph over San Jose State's Olivia Marshall (6-4, 4-6, 6-2). In
doubles play, Ivanova totaled three wins, going 2-1 at the No. 1
position and 1-0 at No. 2. Ivanova improved to 9-3 in singles play
this spring and 10-2 in doubles matches. Her efforts helped
Southern Utah extend its school-record seven-match win streak to
improve to 10-2, its best record in school history.
