NDSU's Tamayo and SUU's Black Capture Softball Honors
ELMHURST, Ill. - North Dakota State's Katie Tamayo and Southern
Utah's Heather Black were named Summit League Softball Players and
Pitcher of the Week for their performances during the week of April
4-10.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Katie Tamayo, North Dakota State
Jr., DP/P (Garden Grove, Calif./Central Arizona CC)
Tamayo garners her first career Player of the Week award
after leading North Dakota State to a series sweep of Oakland. She
opened the weekend 3-for-4 in game one of Friday's doubleheader,
including two doubles, two RBI and two runs scored. In game two,
she scored two more runs and drove home another on a sacrifice
fly. In the series finale, she recorded one more hit to help the
Bison sweep the Golden Grizzlies. For the weekend, Tamayo batted a
.500 (4-for-8) with a .750 slugging percentage, which included two
doubles, four runs scored, and three RBI.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Heather Black, Southern Utah
Jr., RHP (Lancaster, Calif./Snow College)
Black earns her first career Pitcher of the Week honor after
going 2-1 from the circle last week and remaining undefeated (8-0)
in league play. She opened the week with her only loss as the
Thunderbirds fell to BYU, 3-1 in eight innings. Black came back in
game one of SUU's series against South Dakota State to pick up her
seventh league win of the season as she struck out six batters.
Black captured her second win of the week in the series finale,
fanning a career-high 15, yielding no walks, three hits and one
earned run. On the week, the right-handed hurler threw three
complete games, striking out 30 batters in 21.2 innings. In league
play, she remained undefeated (8-0) on the season, while fanning 24
and yielding just four earned runs in 14.1 innings.
