IUPUI's Prewitt and UMKC's Friese Named Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week
ELMHURST, Ill. - IUPUI's Leah Prewitt and UMKC's Deanna Friese
were named Summit League Softball Players and Pitcher of the Week
for their performances during the week of April 11-17.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Leah Prewitt, IUPUI
Jr., 1B (Indianapolis, Ind./Franklin Central)
Prewitt earns her first career Player of the Week honor
after leading IUPUI past South Dakota State with a 2-1 record in
the three-game series. To open the weekend, she went 2-for-3 in a
non-league game against Indiana State, with a solo home run. She
bested that performance in the series opener against SDSU with a
perfect 2-for-2, both home runs, with four RBI and three runs
scored. The first basemen then tallied one hit in each of the
other league games, ending the series 1-for-1 with a double and two
walks. For the week, Prewitt recorded two multi-hit games with a
.500 batting average (6-for-12), a .625 on-base percentage and a
1.333 slugging percentage, which included four extra base hits (3
HR, 1 2B), five RBI, four runs scored and three base on balls. In
league play alone, she boasted a .667 average (4-for-6) and a 1.833
slugging percentage as three of her four hits were extra base hits
(2 HR, 1 2B).

PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Deanna Friese, UMKC
So., RHP (Kennesaw, Ga./Kennesaw Mountain)
Friese garners her fourth career Pitcher of the Week award
and third of the season after firing a no-hitter and a one-hitter
at the Dakotas Round Robin Tournament. The right-handed hurler
opened the tournament with a one-hit complete game shutout against
South Dakota and retired 15 batters on strikes. She then came back
in the next game to earn her first save of the year by striking out
three batters in one inning of work. In her final start of the
weekend, Friese threw a no-hitter against North Dakota, fanning 14
and walking one. She ended the weekend with a relief appearance,
striking eight more in three innings of work. For the week, Friese
threw two complete game shutouts, struck out 46 batters, while
surrendering 12 hits, six walks and four earned runs in 24.0
innings. She posted a 1.17 ERA and held her opponents to a
combined .141 batting average.
