Served as Western Illinois University's Athletic Director
over a span of three decades ... Named the National Association of
Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA)/Continental Airlines
Athletic Director of the Year in 2000 ... The Summit League's
annual Women's All-Sports Award, honoring the school with the most
combined points in all league-sponsored women's sports, is named
after Smiley ... Was an active member on several NCAA basketball
committees including: Chair of the North Central Region Division
II, Administrative team of the Division II Tournament (1982-85) and
the Mideast Regional Committee (1996-99) ... Earned her bachelor's
degree from DePauw University, master's degree from Ball State and
PhD from the University of Iowa ... Began her collegiate athletics
administration career at the University of Iowa as the Director of
Women's Recreational and Intercollegiate Sports, becoming the first
Women's Athletic Director in school history ... Served as the
Associate Athletic Director at the University of North Dakota
(1971-85) before being named as A.D. at Western Illinois University
... Member of the National Association of Collegiate Directors of
Athletics (NACDA) since 1981 ... A 2010 inductee into the Western
