UMKC's Bare, NDSU's Christian, SUU's Fitzgerald Earn Weekly Honors

ELMHURST, Ill. - UMKC's Taylor Bare and Southern Utah's Breana Fitzgerald were named The Summit League's Offensive and Defensive Women's Soccer Players of the Week for their performances Sept. 19-25.


OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Taylor Bare, UMKC
So., F (Anoka, Minn./Anoka)

Bare records her first career Offensive Player of the Week award after scoring both UMKC
goals in a 2-1 win over Nebraska Omaha last week. Her first tally came in the 36th minute off an assist from Randi Simmons to put the Kangaroos up 1-0. The eventual game-winner was scored in the 60th minute by Bare, her team-leading fifth of the season.


Holly Christian, North Dakota State
Jr., M (Apple Valley, Minn./Apple Valley)

Christian earns her second-straight Offensive Player of the Week award after scoring two goals and leading the Bison to a 1-0-1 record for the week. The junior midfielder tallied the game-winner in a 1-0 shutout over Drake and scored NDSU's second goal to help preserve a 2-2 tie with North Dakota. Christian has now scored four goals in the last three matches and leads the team in points with nine.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Breana Fitzgerald, Southern Utah
So., GK (Layton, Utah/Northridge)

Fitzgerald collects her first career Defensive Player of the Week honor after helping Southern Utah preserve a 4-4 tie against Montana. The sophomore surrendered just one goal after being replaced with 28 minutes remaining and a 4-1 lead. She returned for both overtime periods, holding the Grizzlies scoreless to preserve the draw. For the week, Fitzgerald had a 1.29 goals against average, 83 percent save percentage and recorded four saves.
