Oakland Sweeps Swimming and Diving Athletes of the Week

ELMHURST, Ill. - Oakland's Amr el Sayed and Vanessza Balogh were named The Summit League's Swimming and Diving Athletes of the Week for their performances Jan. 10-16.


MEN'S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Amr el Sayed, Oakland
So., Alexandria, Egypt/El Abasego
El Sayed garners his third career Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week award and second of the season after two event wins to lead the Golden Grizzlies to victories over Cleveland State (134-103) and Xavier (163-42). The sophomore touched the wall first in the 1,000 Free with a time of 9:25.46 and in the 500 Free with a time of 4:31.70. Both times are in the league's top five, ranking second in the 1,000 Free and third in the 500 Free.

WOMEN'S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Vanessza Balogh, Oakland

Balogh earns her seventh career Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week award and fourth of the season after posting three first-place finishes to lead Oakland past Cleveland State (142-101) and Xavier (186-51). She won the 200 IM (2:05.92), 200 Breast (2:22.83) and 500 Breast (4:59.23). The sophomore's time in the 200 IM ranks third in the league. With this award, Balogh is now tied for third in league history (since 1992-93) for awards in a season (four) and career awards (seven).
