IUPUI Sweeps Weekly Swimming & Diving Awards

ELMHURST, Ill. – IUPUI's Rich Sunkel and Elizabeth Bourgeois were named The Summit League's Swimming and Diving Athletes of the Week for their performances Oct. 16-22.

MEN'S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK         
Rich Sunkel, IUPUI

Fr. // Lafayette, Ind.
Sunkel earns his first career Athlete of the Week honor after winning his first two career individual events and recording two top-three league times.  The freshman won the 200 and 500 Free as IUPUI defeated league foe Eastern Illinois, 112-88.  At the Indiana Intercollegiates, Sunkel bettered his time in both freestyle events with a league-best time of 4:49.15 in the 500 and 1.45.74 in the 200, which ranks third.

WOMEN'S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Elizabeth Bourgeois, IUPUI

Sr. // Cincinnati, Ohio
Bourgeouis captures her second career Athlete of the Week honor and first of the season after posting three individual league-best times and a league-leading relay.  The Cincinnati, Ohio, native won the 200 Fly in a league-best 2:12.12 to help the Jags defeat Eastern Illinois and Butler.  She then won the 50 Free (24.19) and finished second in the 100 Fly (57.30) at the Indiana Intercollegiates, recording the fastest league time this season in the both events.  Bourgeois was also a part of the IUPUI 200 medley relay team that posted a time of 1:48.34, which ranks first in the league and is the second-fastest all-time in school history.

Also nominated: Andee Budahl, South Dakota State.
