Wampler, Atkinson Named Women's Soccer Players of the Week

ELMHURST, Ill. – Omaha's Hannah Wampler and Western Illinois' Laura Atkinson were named The Summit League's Women's Soccer Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week for their performances Oct. 1-7.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Wampler collects Offensive Player of the Week honors after leading the Mavericks to a pair of league road victories at South Dakota (3-2) and Kansas City (2-1). In the win over the Coyotes, the freshman scored her first collegiate goal in the third minute to give Omaha the early lead. With just 20 seconds remaining, she collected the ball during a scramble in the box and fired it home for the match-winner and her second goal of the game. In Sunday's win over the Kangaroos, Wampler assisted on the match-winner as her corner kick found the head of Jordyn Braun. For the week, Wampler had two goals, including a match-winner, and one assist for five points while having a hand in three of Omaha's five goals last week.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Laura Atkinson, Western Illinois

Atkinson collects her fifth career, third this season and second-straight Defensive Player of the Week award. The junior goalkeeper recorded a pair of shutout wins for the first place Leathernecks. On Wednesday, Atkinson made eight saves in a 1-0 win over Missouri Valley Conference leader Drake (11-3-1). She repeated that performance at IUPUI with another eight stops in a 1-0 win. Atkinson has a perfect 7-0 record, five by shutout, with 34 saves. She currently leads the league in wins (7), shutouts (5), goals against average (0.29) and save percentage (.944).
