ELMHURST, Ill. - IUPUI's Deon Shafer and UMKC's Madeline Schulte were named as The Summit League's men's and women's tennis players of the week for their performances Feb. 14-20.

Shafer earned his first career award after posting a perfect 3-0 singles record and 4-0 doubles mark during the week. Playing the No. 6 singles position, Shafer recorded three straight-set victories, topping Green Bay's Jess Henning (1 and 4), Valparaiso's Egan Hart (2 and 2) and Chicago State's Rashley Yeremia (3 and 4). In doubles play, Shafer teamed with Thomas Gans at No. 3 for wins over Green Bay (8-6), Northern Illinois (8-1), Valparaiso (8-3) and Chicago State (8-3). Shafer helped the Jaguars to a 2-2 record during the week.

Schulte earned her first career award after posting a 3-0 singles record and 2-1 doubles mark during the week. Competing at the No. 6 singles position, Schulte won in straight sets in all three matches, besting Drake's Ali Patterson (0 and 3), Chicago State's Mia Townsell (0 and 0) and Northern Iowa's Stefannia Sampaio (0 and 3). In doubles action, Schulte teamed with Gabby Pintos at No. 3 for victories over Drake (8-3) and Chicago State (8-2). Schulte has won four consecutive singles matches and recorded four 6-0 sets in three of those matches. Her efforts helped the Kangaroos to their first win over Chicago State since 2002, its closest match ever against Northern Iowa and accounted for the lone point in the loss to Drake.
