IUPUI's Nelson, USD's Boss Earn Weekly Awards

ELMHURST, Ill. - IUPUI's Kerah Nelson and South Dakota's Jodie Boss were named The Summit League's Women's Basketball Players of the Week for their performances Feb. 14-20.

Nelson earns her first Player of the Week award in her career after helping IUPUI snap South Dakota's seven-game league winning streak. In the win, she scored 21 points with nine rebounds, one block and one steal. The junior forward followed that up with a 19-point, five-rebound performance vs. UMKC. She also added two steals and two assists against the Kangaroos. For the week, Nelson averaged 20.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 1.5 blocks per game. She shot 41 percent (13-of-32) from the field, 50 percent (2-of-4) from downtown and had a 86 percent (12-of-14) mark at the free throw line. A native of St. Petersburg, Fla., Nelson accounted for 37 percent of IUPUI's scoring in the two games.

Boss captures her first career award after totaling 23 rebounds and 15 blocks in a pair of league games last week. The senior center set a South Dakota single-game record with nine blocks to go along with 10 rebounds at IUPUI. The nine blocks are the sixth-highest total in the nation and second-best total in the league this season. In the win at Western Illinois, Boss grabbed 13 rebounds with six blocks while adding 10 points. For the week, she averaged 11.5 rebounds, 7.5 blocks, 8.0 points and 1.5 steals per game. Boss added two assists and was perfect at the free throw line (8-for-8). The Columbus, Neb., native set the single-season school record for blocks with 110 and became the first Coyote player to eclipse 200 career blocks, accomplishing the feat in less than two seasons.
