SUU's Griffin and UMKC's Ramos Named Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week

ELMHURST, Ill. - Southern Utah's Mikkel Griffin and UMKC's Cinda Ramos were named The Summit League's Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week for their performances Feb. 20-26.


PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Mikkel Griffin, Southern Utah

Griffin garners her first career Player of the Week award after leading the Thunderbirds to a 4-1 record last week with three multi-hit games. The junior outfielder opened the week helping SUU sweep Utah State in a double-header, as she went 3-for-4 with two extra base hits (HR, 2B), three runs and a RBI in game one. She then went a perfect 5-for-5 at the plate in a three-game weekend series against Weber State. The St. George, Utah, native went 2-for-2 with a double and a homer in game one of Saturday's double-header and ended the series on Sunday again 2-for-2 with a homer and five RBI. For the week, Griffin tallied a .727 batting average (8-for-11), 1.727 slugging percentage and .850 on-base percentage with nine walks She recorded five extra-bases hits, three home runs, two doubles, nine runs, seven RBI and three stolen bases.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Ramos captures her first career Pitcher of the Week honor after posting a 3-0 record on the week. She opened the Evansville Tournament with a 2-0 victory over Butler giving up five hits and no earned runs in four innings of work. In her second start of the weekend, she allowed two hits and one earned run, while striking out four batters in 5.1 innings in an 8-5 win against Detroit. She came in relief in her final appearance of the week holding Butler hitless and scoreless in 1.2 innings of work to earn her third win of the week. On the week, the right-handed pitcher fanned seven batters, while yielding seven hits, one earned run and two walks in 11 innings for an 0.64 ERA.
